Although Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe, the geographical center of the whole continent of Europe is in Western Ukraine, in the Carpathian Mountains. The population of Ukraine (48 million) is three times less than population of Russia (144 million), but even during the Soviet era there were three times as many Christians in Ukraine as in Russia. And now this number is even greater because churches in Ukraine are experiencing a period of rapid growth! For instance, in Kiev there are more than ten churches with more than a thousand members. There is also a church in Kiev which is considered the largest in Europe. Now God is powerfully working in Ukraine, performing great miracles. In the future, Ukraine will become, and is already becoming, the training ground for missionaries to all parts of the Russian speaking world and beyond. |

Already, many missionaries are being sent from here to Russia, Israel, the countries of Central Asia and the Baltic States. As the Soviet Union was known for its weapons, in the last days Ukraine will be known and is already being known for its missionaries. In Ukraine, Campus Crusade is called Ukraine for Christ, and it plays an important role in changing our society. In ten years of its work, our organization has grown from two couples of American missionaries to one of the largest missions in this country. Now it has about 100 national staff members (most of whom came to Christ as students). More than 500 students are involved in our movements in all the major cities of Ukraine (future missionaries). Last year, we sent our first team of missionaries to Russia. Ukraine has a strategic position in reaching the world for Christ. It is a bridge between the "Christian" West and Islamic-Orthodox East. Now, God is renewing our country spiritually, and I believe it will lead to economic and social changes. Then the whole world will see how God blesses those who bless Him. |

To reach the world for Christ, huge human and financial resources are needed, and I am confident that soon Ukraine will have both. But now I see mostly how God is blessing us with human resources. Financially, most people in our country (including Christians) are not prospering yet. But I believe that soon the Lord will raise our country in this respect too, and He will provide for my ministry through Ukrainian Christians. Right now this is hard to do. Perhaps, today He wants to do it through you to give you the opportunity to be part of the miracles He is doing in Ukraine. I believe nothing is accidental with God and maybe this is why you are holding this letter right now (Eph. 4:14).
